Scholarships - Why and For Whom

There are certain scholarships which are provided at international level for studying in a particularuniversity. One such example is Rhodes scholarship for getting into Oxford University. At many places, a specific exam (both written and practical, depending on institution and course) is conducted for selecting students applicable for scholarship and at other places scholarship beholders are selected on the basis of their performance throughout their career till date.
