Oral Cancer Awareness
SPRING LAKE, N.C. - Dec. 5, 2019 - PRLog -- Oral Cancer Awareness is taken seriously at Southern Family Dental and they wanted to announce that they offer oral screenings for mouth cancer at check-ups. During the check up, they visually inspect the mouth, and palpate the jaw and neck to ensure a proper screening. Early detection could mean an easier treatment for the condition.

Southern Family Dental wants to ensure that their patients are well educated, so they can take proper precautions and be aware of warning signs. Although cancer is very complex, there are certain actions you can take to reduce your risk. First, schedule regular dental visits. When you get your regular check ups, your oral hygiene will improve, but it is also a chance for your dentist to catch suspicious changes in your oral health. Avoid using tobacco. Cigarettes and chewing tobacco both expose your mouth to chemicals that can increase your risk of getting mouth cancer. Excessive alcohol use also increases risk or oral cancer by changing the way the body reacts to cancerous cells, so it is best to monitor alcohol intake. Protecting your lips from the sun is another great precaution to take to limit your chances of oral cancer. Avoid getting too much direct sun to your lips, especially between the peak daytime hours. You can do this by using a hat, applying sunscreen, or staying in the shade. The last tip is to eat healthy. Eating lots of fruits and veggies can contribute to a strong immune system that can fight off cancerous cells.

Early detection of oral cancer means it often can be treated more easily. If you find any symptoms change in your oral health, please reach out to your dentist. Dental changes could be a sore that won't go away, white or reddish patch inside of your mouth, lingering lump/rough spot around the mouth, or difficult or painful swallowing. Symptoms could actually be any significant change in your oral health - unexplained bleeding, numbness, pain, difficulty swallowing, or loose teeth.

If you're concerned about Oral Cancer or you haven't seen a Dentist in a long while, please contact Southern Family Dental for a visit - https://southernfamilydentalnc.com/appointments/.
