By: Krueck + Sexton Architects Sexton, who earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from IIT College of Architecture in 1980, joins a distinguished group of business and community leaders as trustees of the private, technology-focused research university. "IIT was foundational to my own professional career—as well as the careers of so many of my K+S colleagues," A long-term supporter and advocate of Illinois Tech, Sexton is the co-chair of the Board of Advisors for IIT College of Architecture and served on the search committee to identify and recommend candidates for the college's permanent dean position. Sexton also led the Krueck + Sexton design team overseeing the 2005 restoration of S. R. Crown Hall, a 1956 IIT College of Architecture building designed by renowned architect Mies van der Rohe and considered one of the most architecturally significant buildings of the 20th Century Modernist movement. Sexton was formally elected by the IIT Board of Trustees during its October 2019 meeting. "We're delighted to welcome Mark to the Board of Trustees," said Alan W. Cramb, President, Illinois Institute of Technology. "His expertise in architecture, design, and sustainability adds a unique perspective that will be valuable for the university's future." Over the past four decades, Sexton's projects have earned local and national recognition from the American Institute of Architects, Chicago Architecture Foundation, Fast Company, and other prominent organizations.
