Belsito Speaks to Marblehead Democratic Town Committee

MARBLEHEAD, Mass. - Feb. 5, 2020 - PRLog -- The Marblehead Democratic Town Committee hosted candidate for the 6th Congressional District, Jamie Zahlaway Belsito on Monday January 27, 2020. Belsito described the failures of Congress to address the sixth district's most important issues, including the mental health crisis.  "We are putting people in holding pens or shipping them off to jail or putting them in facilities that aren't equipped."

She discussed how the district's most vulnerable populations continue to be ignored.  In Massachusetts, suicide is the number one cause of death in postpartum women. Fifty percent of Essex County inmates suffer from an untreated mental health issue.  And substance use programs that support our district's families are in constant jeopardy of closure due to lack of funding.

"We have to do better," Belsito said. "The 6th Congressional District is facing serious challenges and our residents, and families, deserve a leader who wants to be here and represent the needs of all. I am committed to representing the hard-working people of the district where I live and where I grew up."

Jamie has been fighting for progressive policies on issues from women's rights to increased education opportunities and has been a consistent voice for the underrepresented her entire career. She has been a leader for our district and will continue working to ensure that the residents, and families, of our communities are put first once again.
