LONG BEACH, Calif. - Sept. 30, 2020 - PRLog -- The Clarissa Manuel Foundation, in conjunction with Bridge Builders Foundation, has procured over 500 earphones with microphones and whiteboards for every student at Barton Elementary School in the Long Beach Unified School District. The Clarissa Manuel Foundation and Bridge Builders Foundation are community organizations who recognize the difficulty of distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Children are tasked with trying to concentrate on computer-based instruction while disruptive activity is going on around them. The home environment can present many distractions while a child is learning including being distracted by their siblings in the same room attempting to learn and other family dynamics. Providing earbuds with microphones will help block out background noise and allow students to concentrate as well as communicate with their teachers rather than what is going on around them in the home environment. Barton Elementary School has one of the highest percentages of African American students in the Long Beach Unified School District according to data provided on the District's website. The Clarissa Manuel Foundation and Bridge Builder's Foundation want to make sure every student, especially Black/African American students, have the best opportunity to learn despite the distractions of not having a traditional learning environment during this pandemic.

The Clarissa Manuel Foundation is a public non-profit organization focused on preventing the further deterioration of the community through educational and enrichment programs. The foundation is named in honor of Clarissa Manuel (1952-2009) who is a Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a Silver Life Member of the NAACP. The Clarissa Manuel Foundation launched Young Cultivated Minds of the Future (YCMF) in January 2020, with the mission of promoting academic awareness, tools for physical/mental health and wellbeing, and building a stronger financial future among youth. Additionally, the Clarissa Manuel Foundation has continued to provide scholarships to university students annually since 2012. Bridge Builders Foundation has a mission to remove the barriers of race, poverty, ignorance and despair, through mentoring, educational support, health care awareness, and community uplift. Bridge Builders Foundation has multiple programs under their youth component, which includes: Thriving Under the Influence Program, Dr. Ernest E. Just Science Program, and the Distance Learning Program. Bridge Builders Foundation has awarded over $500,000 in scholarships to African American male youth.
