Alten Construction breaks ground on Marin Elementary School

ALBANY, Calif. - July 6, 2021 - PRLog -- Alten Construction, a full-service San Francisco Bay Area commercial construction company, recently broke ground on Marin Elementary School.

Alten Construction was awarded the project in November of 2019 and is expected to complete the project in early 2023. Construction will be completed over the course of 20 months, and will entail approximately 50,000 square feet of new classroom buildings, full retrofit of an existing administration, library and multi-use building. The work will also include a complete overhaul of the sitework and playground area.

The $30 million project includes complete renovations of some existing buildings and the addition of new buildings. The entire new square footage will come to approximately 70,000 square feet.

The new construction will enhance visibility on the entire play area and campus with improved configuration of existing structures, and increase the size of the outdoor play area. The future campus will be able to house more students and offer an additional 11,000 square feet of play area for the children.

"We have an incredibly small site to build an elementary school for over 500 students, so there have been many challenges," said Melisa Pfohl, principal at Marin Elementary School. "Alten has been great at listening to our needs and helping us find solutions. Their extensive portfolio of working on school campuses has made this a pleasant experience."

The campus will also receive major technology updates. All classrooms will have new audio visual systems, including projectors, screens and speakers, alongside new fire and life safety systems, security systems and more. The building will also be Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) certified, meaning it will be built to exceed what is considered normal levels of quality when it comes to energy management, acoustics and more to enhance classroom learning for students.

Located at 1001 Santa Fe Avenue in Albany, Marin Elementary School is part of the Albany Unified School District (AUSD) and its mission is to provide excellent public education that empowers all to achieve their fullest potential as productive citizens.
