Alten Construction completes Bill and Adele Jonas Center

NOVATO, Calif. - Dec. 15, 2020 - PRLog -- Alten Construction, a full-service San Francisco Bay Area commercial construction company, recently completed the state-of-the-art Bill and Adele Jonas Center on the College of Marin - Indian Valley Campus.

The 15,600-square-foot design-build project included construction of the Bill and Adele Jonas Center, a facility ideal for events, meetings, training and a host of other activities. The construction team also made adjustments to an existing building and performed general site work.

The one-story, 10,800-square-foot Bill and Adele Jonas Center utilizes much of the existing structures and foundations of the campus' Building 19. The facility provides space for a 710-seat banquet hall and features a prep kitchen, support space and stage equipped with built-in audiovisual infrastructure for presentations, speakers and performances. The project also includes the addition of a one-story lounge space. The Bill and Adele Jonas Center will be used for college-sponsored events, programs and training, as well as Rotary Club of Novato luncheons, events and meetings.

"The partnership between the Rotary Club of Novato and the College of Marin has created a much-needed space for gathering and educating the community," said Dr. David Wain Coon, College of Marin superintendent and president. "College of Marin is looking forward to opening the Bill and Adele Jonas Center, a welcome addition to the campus and Marin County."

In addition, Alten Construction made modifications to the campus' existing 4,800-square-foot Building 18. Updates to the one-story building included a new commercial kitchen, laundry room, storage, office and meeting room spaces and the replacement of existing windows and exterior finish.

The project also added a parking lot with a passenger drop-off area, bicycle parking and sloped walkways from the upper-level building to the lower-level Bill and Adele Jonas Center, along with a prep kitchen, an outdoor pre-function space, a covered trellis area outside the lounge and an exterior deck adjacent to the banquet hall.

"College of Marin is always looking for ways to engage and partner with our local communities and organizations," said Greg Nelson, assistant superintendent and vice president of administrative services at the College of Marin. "The collaboration between College of Marin and the Rotary Club of Novato on the design and construction of the Bill and Adele Jonas Center is a wonderful example of such a partnership. We enjoyed working with the Rotary Club of Novato to be able to build a space that both the College and external community will enjoy for years to come."
