Human Anti-Interferon-Alpha IgG ELISA Kit

An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay intended for identifying auto-INF-α IgG antibodies in diluted plasma/serum samples.

MILPITAS, Calif. - July 9, 2021 - PRLog -- Interferons (IFNs) are soluble glycoprotein cytokines released by the host cells in response to viral infection. During viral infection, IFNs act as inducers and modulators of both innate and adaptive immune mechanisms. In humans, Type I interferons (IFN-alpha and -beta) are secreted by virus-infected cells when viral factors such as envelope glycoproteins, CpG oligodeoxynucleotides or dsRNA, interact with the pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs), toll-like receptors (TLRs) and cytosolic receptors. Interferon-mediated activation of cellular signaling pathways (such as the JAK/STAT kinase pathway) is critical for a functional immune response and viral clearance. Recent studies have shown that at least 10% patients with life-threatening COVID-19 have IgG antibodies directed against INF-alpha (α) interferons.

These auto-interferon antibodies block the adaptive immune response against SARS-CoV-2 infection. Therefore, detection of INF-α antibody in patients' serum or plasma can be valuable for predicting the progression of the infection and designing therapeutic strategies. The presence of anti-IFN-α antibodies may also be a factor in the continuing cognitive, vascular and respiratory sequelae exhibited by "long COVID" patients.

BioVision's Anti-Interferon Alpha IgG ELISA Kit is an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay intended for identifying auto-INF-α IgG antibodies in diluted plasma/serum samples that might impede clearance of SARS-CoV-2 or other viral pathogens. The assay uses the human INF-α protein as a bait to capture anti-INF-α antibodies in samples. Subsequent reaction with an enzyme-labeled anti-human-IgG conjugate and a colorimetric substrate generate a colored product measured at OD450 nm.

The intensity of the color is proportional to the amount of anti-INF-α antibodies in samples. A positive reaction suggests the presence of auto-IgG antibodies against INF-α. A negative control serum is included for establishment of a positive test signal cutoff. The assay is a quick, easy and an accurate method to detect anti-INF-α antibodies in samples.
