Follow on Google News | Thousands of Young Writers Impacted by Teen-Run Nonprofit's Booming SummerThe Young Writers Initiative hosts Summer Camp and Mentorship Programs, as well as 24-Hour Write-A-Thon
"The sense of community that was created during summer camp...is a mind boggling thing," a summer camp attendee testifies. During these isolating times, summer camp allowed this attendee to meet "more people from all over the world in 3 months than [she] would have in years" without it. TYWI's first 24 hour Write-a-thon proves to be just as big of a success as the summer camp. Write-a-thon participants have praised the event's organization and structure, as well as the content and quality of the "diverse group of people speaking and doing workshops." Among the talented line up of speakers and panelists include Chloe Gong, author of These Violent Delights and Namina Forna, author of The Gilded Ones. Not to be deterred by the main demographic reentering the classroom in the fall, the organization steamrolls ahead with a new Book Club program, podcast, and full manuscript competition, funded by Book Pipeline, all releasing in the near future. Created with young writers in mind, The Young Writers Initiative offers free services, ranging from editing to cover design, to provide the youth with otherwise costly resources, as well as free programs and events to educate and encourage the upcoming generations of writers.
