CGR Ranks New York State's Top Private Employers

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Sept. 9, 2021 - PRLog -- Hospital systems top the list of New York's private employers, with Long-Island based Northwell Health the state's largest with more than 68,000 employees. Health facilities take 6 of the top 10 slots and 9 of the top 20, following a decades-long trend of expansion and consolidation in the health care sector.

New York's financial sector remains a pillar of the state's economy, with JP Morgan Chase taking the #2 spot at 41,000 employees. Financial firms occupy 4 of the top 20.

Firms with employment concentrated downstate comprise 70% of employment and took 13 of the 20 positions. Amazon is the largest of the firms with a statewide presence at 34,000 employees.

The University of Rochester, particularly the University of Rochester Medical Center and affiliates, is the largest private employer in upstate. Full time equivalent employment totals about 28,000.
