Retired NYPD Detective Writes Children's Policing Book
To Help Improve Community-Police Relations and Reduce Children's Fear of Police

New York, NY- November 2021- A new children's book titled, The Police Are Part Of Our Community (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FS31P1B), has been written for young children growing up in a world where police and community conflicts occur far too often, and the fear associated with the police can be overwhelming. The book addresses the misconceptions of police by showing the diversity within the ranks and the brave and courageous work that police are enlisted to do in our communities. The book is a tool that encourages parents to read and have that important talk with their children about interacting with the police.

The author, retired NYPD Homicide Detective and Hostage Negotiator, Dr. Alfred S. Titus, Jr. (http://www.atitusconsulting.com/), is a criminal justice expert and professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.  After over 25 years in law enforcement and the criminal justice field, Dr. Titus felt the urgency to write this book after experiencing the sentiment towards the police change after numerous tragedies occurring across the country.  Unfortunately, the negative sentiment effects the children, who are left with the misconceptions that all police are bad. These misconceptions can develop into fears that unnecessarily complicate everyday police interactions. The book is designed to get parents and families talking honestly about the issues in policing, realizing that the precarious issues are being addressed, and by having a better understanding of the issues – we can all exist peacefully.
