On the eve of World War II, hard-boiled detective Samuel de Champlain Le Pelleteur takes on a particularly challenging case. His secretary, the young, brilliant, and insightful Sophie Marleau, yearns to become a private detective. When the head of a shipping company with an uncanny resemblance to Le Pelleteur's ex-fiancée hires the detective to look into a string of Native American artwork thefts, the investigation leads Le Pelleteur and Marleau into a complex plot of murder and international intrigue.

Throughout his life, Steve Rhinelander has studied Wisconsin history, particularly the 1600s and 1700s, when fur traders and missionaries from Quebec began to make contact with the indigenous peoples of the region. A retired Washington DC attorney, he now lives in Michigan with his wonderfully supportive wife, Laurie. He keeps a bobble head doll of Milwaukee Brewer baseball great Robin Yount on his desk. In his spare time, he listens to 1950s rockabilly music. POUTINE AND GIN is his debut novel.
