Follow on Google News | Express-News introduces Alamo City High School Sports Awards EventBy: Express-News The awards ceremony will recognize exceptional athletes and their teams from more than 80 high schools throughout the San Antonio area. The event will include a dinner and VIP experience for High School athletes and their families or supporters. The event is the culmination of the nine-month-long high school sports season covered by the Express-News sports department. "We are truly honored to support the first ever High School Sports Awards here in San Antonio. These incredible athletes have overcome tremendous obstacles over the course of their high school years. We know the positive impact sports have on the athletes and the communities that develop them and we cannot wait to celebrate with these families, players, and teams." -Thomas J Henry. Traditionally, the Express-News editorial had announced its Athletes of the Year throughout the nine-month sports season. This year will be the first year where the Express-News awards its Athletes of the Year at our celebratory event. Select athletes will enjoy FREE tickets to the awards event. Prior to June 2, the Express-News will be sending communications through Athletic Directors so select student athletes get instructions on how to redeem their FREE tickets on how to RSVP for the event at MYSA.com/MVP. "We are so thrilled to partner with the Express-News to bring this event to San Antonio and the surrounding areas. It is an event we feel comes from the heart and we are excited to support these incredible athletes and their families." said Brandy McLelland of Texas A&M San Antonio. On June 2, doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. "Morgan's Inclusion Initiative is delighted to play an important part in the Alamo City High School Sports Awards because it's a great opportunity to honor the athletes' dedication, determination, and inspiration. This is particularly true of Inclusion Athlete of the Week honorees because we know full well the significant challenges, they must overcome in achieving athletic excellence." The Express-News sports department makes their Athletes of the Week and All-Area selections based on statistics, performance and input from coaches and athletic directors. The Express-News Area all-sports award is named in honor of Dan Cook, the late sportswriter and columnist for the newspaper from 1952-2003.
