Av3D Will Serve as an Integrated Additive Manufacturing Solution Provider for Aviation Companies

The Av3D Design Corp. startup addresses increasing demand from the aerospace industry for technology capable of producing sophisticated 3D printed parts and components.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - June 2, 2022 - PRLog -- Aviation is a capital-intensive business, and asset maintenance is a big part of that cost. Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services are essential for any industry that uses machinery to run operations. In the aviation sector, the term MRO aviation refers to all the activities aimed at ensuring that the aircraft remain ready to fly at all times. Global MRO spending in 2018 was valued at $69 billion. This represented 9% of airlines' operational costs. With a 4.1% increase per annum, the market size is estimated to reach $103 billion in 2028. Although the numbers above do not break down the cost of cabin upkeep but coming from an aviation background, it is evident that these are significant enough to support a business.

Aerospace 3D printing is primarily used to increase the efficiency of the A&D supply chain and reduce storage costs of inventory and waste production materials. Furthermore, the Aerospace 3D printing industry focuses more on creating parts for aircraft that are lighter and stronger than parts made by using traditional manufacturing. It works like photocopying: you 3D scan a part, convert that scanned geometry into a 3D printable file, 3D print using the fit for purpose method (SLS or FDM) and post-process the part by applying the surface finish or paint as per requirement. Once the part is printed, as it has been produced as per the specification of an approved Part 21 Subpart G organization, an EASA Form 1 can be issued against the part. This is required by airlines worldwide as acceptable documentation before a part can be fitted to an operational airplane.
