GREENVILLE, S.C. - Aug. 18, 2022 - PRLog -- Using poetry to speak about lynching Melissa Whiteford St. Clair poet and author of Home Work A Collection of Poems Sparked by One White Woman's Journey on the Matter of Race announced she will be part of the program for the Soil Collection Ceremony for Robert Williams. Presented by the Community Remembrance Project of Greenville SC, the event is free and open to the public and held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the Shady Grove Baptist Church, 140 New Shady Grove Baptist Church Road, Pelzer, SC 29669.

According to the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), four black lives were ended by lynchings in Greenville County, South Carolina, and a total of 164 in South Carolina.

"As a newly onboarded member of the Community Remembrance Project of Greenville's Events Committee, it is an honor to share a poem for the Soil Collection Ceremony for Robert Williams," stated St. Clair. She continued, "I was watching the SCETV show "Go For It" and the host was standing in front of an intersection while highlighting tourist spots in Edgefield, SC. The crossroads were Lynch and Main, which immediately caught my eye, and I tucked away to ponder. Five days later, I awoke with the poem to match, "At the Corner of Lynch and Main." She concluded, "Social justice work is very personal and that it triggered poetry as a processing mechanism is truly an unexpected gift from God."
