Follow on Google News | Tutoring Club of St. Johns helps local students with skill gaps since returning to school in 2022The Tutoring Club of St. Johns is working with K-12 students who are at risk of falling behind with skill gaps that continue after the effects of the pandemic.
By: Tutoring Club St. Johns According to Kimberly Mullins, owner of Tutoring Club of St. Johns, not only is the learning risk a reality, but the disparity is growing. "A lot of children who were on the scholastic borderline before the pandemic and virtual learning began are still falling behind," said Mullins. "We now see how drastic this has become for students who have spent years in pandemic schooling," she said. "However, we can tutor at whatever level a child has achieved, not the level of their age or grade they are currently studying. Within one month into the new public school year in St. Johns County, students and parents are now seeing the learning challenges which can benefit from tutoring help." Nicole Snow and her daughter Skylar are benefiting from instruction at the local Tutoring Club. Skylar is in eighth grade at Christ's Church Academy in Jacksonville, and recently transferred to there from a public school in Jacksonville where she suffered academically after returning to the classroom, post pandemic. She was earning very low grades in public school, and is now close to a straight A student due to three to four times a week with tutoring help in math and homework at Mullins's business. With children needing to fill in the learning gaps, National Tutoring Association (NTA) certified tutors at Mullins' locations provide on-site help and get to know the students and their parents who range from low-income to wealthy families. Many students need to learn or re-learn foundational skills like listening, speaking, and following sentences along a page, plus what some may consider easier tasks like raising their hands, and the rhythms of the traditional classroom. Early elementary school students to college preparatory young people are still experiencing the challenges of pandemic education while enrolled in school. The Tutoring Club of St. Johns locations include 605 State Rd. 13, Suite 109 in Fruit Cove, Fla. and 2851 County Road 210 W., Suite 112 in St. Johns, Fla.
