CEO: More regional remote work programs are needed

AUSTIN, Texas - Feb. 14, 2023 - PRLog -- Following the notable success of regional remote work programs like Tulsa Remote, the CEO of a remote work recruitment business said more U.S. cities could benefit from similar initiatives.

"We were already a huge proponent of remote work and its benefits for both employees and employers, of course," said Joseph Boll, RemoteWorker.jobs CEO. "But new data being released is showing direct additional benefits of remote work for economic growth in areas that otherwise may have been struggling in that area."

Remote Worker is an online jobs board and resource website for remote workers, remote work jobseekers, and hiring managers, employers and HR personnel seeking to recruit and hire the top talent for remote positions.

Boll continued, "It makes a strong case for more organizations and/or businesses to support remote work programs that incentivize remote workers to relocate to parts of the country that could use an economic boost."

Research on remote work has continued to show its benefits. Employees who have the opportunity to work remotely either full-time or at least part of the time as a hybrid arrangement have better work-life balance, according to multiple studies. Further, they are able to save on the time, expense and hassle of commuting, as well as improve their productivity. All of these contribute to better job satisfaction, as remote employees feel more comfortable with their arrangements and therefore are less likely to quit. At the same time, businesses operating remotely benefit from happier employees and increased productivity, on top of reaping savings themselves by not having to pay rental fees, electricity bills or other costs associated with having a physical office.

However, wider communities can also benefit from increased remote work, as indicated by research recently published by Harvard Business Review. That research examined the success of Tulsa Remote and found that remote workers who participated in the program had higher earnings, more savings and a higher standard of living overall after relocating to participate in the program. Further, they did not experience any drop in productivity, and many said they planned to stay in the area for the foreseeable future. The local community benefitted from remote workers having more funds to spend within the economy. But Harvard Business Review also found that remote work participants had more free time because they did not have to commute, and that most workers spent their time giving back to the community — through community service, for instance.
