The Festival is being held in partnership with U.S. Bank and co-sponsored by Abdur Razzaq Counseling & Social Architecture, JK Movement, and Irreducible Grace Foundation. April of each year was originally designated as National Financial Literacy Month in 2004 and later changed to National Financial Capability Month. The focus is on financial literacy, providing individuals with access to financial education and tools, and ensuring an understanding of financial services and products. Knowledge of personal finance has declined significantly over the years. According to Annuity.org statistics, only 25 states require a financial literacy or economics course to graduate. The majority of American teens (75%) lack confidence in their knowledge of personal finance. 25% of Americans say they don't have anyone they can ask for trusted financial guidance. Financial literacy directly impacts quality of life. A lack of knowledge about financial matters prevents people from making good financial decisions, paying off debt, saving, and planning for retirement. It hinders social mobility, prevents wealth accumulation, facilitates poverty, and allows individuals to fall prey to fraud and scams.
