Live Music, Dance, and Storytelling Among Free Offerings at Village Market & Festival in Altadena

Good Vibes, Good Food, Good People brings Multicultural Performances, Food, Makers, Music and Art to Altadena Community Event

ALTADENA, Calif. - May 8, 2023 - PRLog -- Live performances by African dancers and drummers, Ballet Folklorico dancers, contemporary singers, and interactive storytellers will be featured at the Village Market & Festival on May 21, 2023, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The festival theme of Good Vibes, Good Food, Good People highlights diverse foods, visual art, children's activities, and 50 vendors in the maker's market.  Presented by Rhythms of the Village, this free event will be held in the backlot of the store at 2279 North Lake Avenue, Altadena, with adjacent merchants, Oh Happy Days and Freddy's Antiques also participating. The event stage features live entertainment all day by multi-cultural rhythm makers and talents including Aztec dance by Yankuititi Pasadena Azteca;  Afro Cuban Assembly; Ballet Folklorico; Crown City Drum Squad; and Nigerian highlife fusion music performed by the Rhythms Family Band, an ensemble of singers and musicians led by Baba Onochie Chukwurah.  Over 1,00 attendees are expected to attend this free event.

"The festival always expresses the diversity of the Altadena community and has interesting finds for everyone," says Emeka Chukwurah of Rhythms of the Village.  "This event is a feel-good celebration of diversity, unity and community."

The maker's fair features one-of-a-kind hand-crafted art, jewelry, clothing, accessories, house wares and more from local makers, such as hand coiled baskets; tapestry hats; musical instruments; organic and sustainable clothing; small batch herbal skin, hair and body care; intentional jewelry from natural stones, beads, crystals, brass and vintage finds; mosaic planters; and African-inspired fashion.  Makers at this event include Pridehatz, Studio B Designs, MYM Organics, Pink Stitches, Artedlatierra, Vintage and Divinity, Garden Mosiacs, Amalia's Beads and Bobs, Kozy Brand and Mystical Crafts.

Food offerings include Alymae's Cobblers; Salvadoran food from Big Grandma's Kitchen; Nigerian dishes from Shola's Kitchen; Birria Master Mexican food; (the) Dankpot Vegan; and island food, such as Calypso grilled shrimp from Antiguan Jerk.
