Empowering Young Adults: Charity's Advocacy for Menstrual Hygiene Day

HEREFORD, U.K. - May 31, 2023 - PRLog -- Hope Spring, a charity based in Herefordshire providing water, sanitation, and hygiene services, formed part of the coalition of NGOs formed for Menstrual Hygiene Day. This group is dedicated to fostering reform in the menstrual hygiene practises of some of the most deprived nations around the world.

To mark the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Day, the group declared May 28 as the designated day. Ahead of this, members of the club took part in a range of advocacy activities to raise awareness for their cause.

Hope Spring https://www.hopespring.org.uk/ worked to promote the event through workshops, which were held at schools and local communities where financial constraints make purchasing sanitary pads difficult. The workshops taught adolescent girls how to make reusable pads.

Hope Spring's lead for the Menstrual Hygiene Day project, Bolu Olorunfemi, remarked that through their work in schools, girls are given both the awareness and materials to create their own reusable menstrual pads. She believes that with access to these resources, using unhygienic alternatives such as rags and leaves will be overcome.

Hope Spring's projects are mainly funded through donations on its business Christmas eCards website https://ecards.hopespring.org.uk/. Seun Olonade, platform manager of the site, expressed his gratitude for users' contributions: "We're proud to say that these donations have enabled us to provide more than eighty young adults with the skills needed to tackle womanhood confidently".

Hope Spring looks forward to being a part of Menstrual Hygiene Day, the next time it's held on May 28, 2024. Until then, the charity will continue its regular work of constructing wells and boreholes.
