Follow on Google News | Georgia's Muslim Community to Celebrate Eid Ul-Adha Beginning June 28, 2023The holiday honors unwavering faith and devotion to community
Eid Ul-Adha is one of two important holidays in the Muslim calendar. It is the season of Hajj, when many Muslims perform their pilgrimage to Mecca. Celebrated by Muslims throughout the world, Eid is a celebration of Prophet Abraham's devotion to God. It is a time to provide food and necessities for others in need, for communal prayer and visiting with friends and family, for exchanging gifts and for eating a celebratory meal with special delicacies. "As we celebrate this year's fulfillment of the Hajj, we are acutely aware that Eid Ul-Adha reminds us that religious life requires sacrifice," said Imam Plemon El-Amin, ISB board member and Imam Emeritus of the Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam. "And God says to all of us in the Qur'an," he quoted from the Islamic sacred text, "'By no means shall you attain righteousness until you give of that which you love and whatever you give, know that God knows it well.' (Qur'an 3:92)" "It is wonderful to see how the recognition of Eid Ul-Adha has grown in the past few years," said Soumaya Khalifa, Founder and Executive Director of ISB. "Georgia has become so diverse, each culture and tradition adds to the richness of our state. People from all faiths and backgrounds send us good wishes, 'Eid Mubarak,' during this festive time."
