CHARLESTON, S.C. - June 29, 2023 - PRLog -- A South Carolina Pastor is making history! Rev. Rosetta Gant- Swinton is the first woman to build an AME church from the "ground up." Gant-Swinton is in her 19th year as the pastor of The New Greater St John AME Church in Wando, South Carolina, less than half an hour from Charleston. She has been preaching for over thirty years.

Rev Gant-Swinton hopes to elevate and evolve the church. She believes it's time to get back to the basics when community and fellowship are at the center of neighborhoods. She is curating a church that may be traditional but also not outdated. "I want everyone, young and old, no matter their race and culture, to feel at home at The New Greater St. John AME," said Gant-Swinton. The pastor is proud to welcome everyone to The African Methodist Episcopal Church, which has a rich history.

As America celebrates its independence day this coming week, Gant- Swinton says it's a great time to reflect on how the AME church helped shape America. The church has a remarkably unique history that sometimes goes unnoticed. The AME Church is notable because it is the first major religious denomination in the Western World birthed out of sociological beliefs and differences.

In America's earliest years, the religious doctrine many followed deemed African Americans inferior. This notion was utilized to justify slavery and racism even after the liberation of enslaved people.

The AME church was created out of protest against slavery, a class system, and the dehumanization of Black people. According to its doctrine, "The mission of the African Methodist Episcopal Church is to minister to the spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and environmental needs of all people by spreading Christ's liberating gospel through word and deed." The church recognized that everyone was equal and beloved by Christ. This teaching helped many African Americans fight for their freedom and rights, reshaping America.

Today the AME church continues to evolve, diversify, and grow and the South Carolina pastor is leading this growth. Her background, education, and bubbly personality have played a significant part in how her church operates.

"My background has allowed me to implement my passion through those that I am a servant and leader. The AME church has given me the resources and opportunities to further my commitment to healing and elevating people's lives through God's word," she stated. I want to continue our rich history.

You can join. Rev. Gant-Swinton on Sundays at  New Greater St. John AME Church, 1046 Green Family Road, Wando, South Carolina 29492.
