Follow on Google News | Black Media Awards Gala Returns For the Fourth Year To The River CityThe Ken Knight Awards, named after well known journalist and media pioneer Ken Knight, will take place on September 7th, honoring black journalists, podcasters, anchors and more.
By: Umunna Legal Group Ken Knight, the namesake of the awards, is recognized for his role in advocating for increased representation of African Americans in broadcasting. He pioneered a movement in which African Americans demanded greater airtime for their music and announcements. Additionally, Knight played a significant role in training and preparing other African Americans for careers in broadcasting through various training programs. Notably, he created the Ken Knight Show, which holds the distinction of being the first African American television show in Jacksonville. Nominations for award recipients will begin on July 20th until August 9th. Media members are encouraged to nominate themselves and colleagues and will also be open to the general public to nominate. Nominees can be active or retired participants of the African-American media (including but not limited to journalists, representatives from tv, radio, newspapers, and social media influencers, etc). Winners will be selected by committee of former winners. This year's host will be Ken Knight Award recipient Dawn Lopez. The celebration will take place at WJCT Studios at 6:30 on September 7, 2023.
