ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Aug. 2, 2023 - PRLog -- -- The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC), the state's leading certifier of green residential and commercial construction projects and local governments in the state, is offering a free Webinar to earn about what goes into creating, writing, and implementing a green city or county ordinance.

The Online Webinar on Zoom is Tuesday, Aug. 8 at Noon. Register today at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_8F10Tt61RjW9pGJwPd8-cQ#/registration

Hear from John Kent Edwards, MS, MPH, LEED Green Associate, Sustainability Officer, City of Delray Beach on the process, challenges, and success of implementing green standards in local communities.

Edwards will also discuss the Greenhouse Gas Inventory his office recently completed. and a request that the City of Delray Beach adopt greenhouse gas reduction goals.

The elements of a green building ordinance include the type of construction (new construction, subsequent construction, or existing buildings), the type of building (commercial, mixed-use, or residential), size threshold (in square feet), financial threshold (based on project cost), the standard required and the version of the standard.

Additional requirements (such as energy reduction), special features (such as fees), exemptions, compliance process, and enforcement.

The FGBC "Florida Green" Certification Program tailors' carbon-reducing, green building standards to the Florida climate, allowing builders, developers, and communities to meet green building standards while simultaneously constructing sustainable properties best suited for Florida's ecosystem.

In 2000 the non-profit FGBC brought together industry professionals from the construction, government, academic and research communities to create green building standards tailored specifically to Florida.

FGBC is by far the largest certifier of green residential and commercial construction, local governments, communities in the state with over 30,000 green certified projects.

Unlike USGBC LEED, Green Globes, and other standards, FGBC "Florida Green" takes a scientific approach developed with state-specific criteria. They address Florida's hot-humid environment, distinctive topography, unique geology, resiliency, and natural disasters.
