Author's Experience of Donor Insemination Becomes A Novel Set In The Scottish Highlands

GOURDON, Scotland - Aug. 28, 2023 - PRLog -- Fantastic Books Publishing is delighted to announce the release of Penny Frances's debut novel, Riding the High Road, a thought-provoking exploration of identity, family, and self-discovery.

Seeing so many debut novelists published in their 20s, author Penny Frances wondered, as a writer in her 40s, if she had left it too late, but found inspiration to pursue her writing dreams after reading an article in Mslexia about author Mary Brown, who published her first novel in her 80s. Encouraged by Mary's story and that she was little more than half her age, Penny approached Mary's publisher, who was impressed with the quality of Riding the High Road and accepted it for publication.

When asked about the theme of her novel, Penny Frances says she drew on personal experiences, saying, "The idea of a young man seeking out his sperm-donor father came when my own son – conceived through donor insemination – was about 12. I wondered whether his conception would have any bearing on the way he saw himself in relation to his peer group as he approached his teens and young adulthood."
