These individuals were recognized for their successful completion of the Housing Authority's Family Self-Sufficiency program and as a result, becoming more financially stable. The Family Self-Sufficiency program is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program designed to help public housing residents, Housing Choice Voucher participants and residents of multifamily assisted housing to increase their earnings and build assets and financial capability. Its mission is to create opportunities for families to achieve new capabilities that lead to sustainable and permanent self-sufficiency. With support of a case manager, participants of the program receive help with job searches and retention, an escrow savings account, credit counseling, budget preparation, homeownership counseling and much more. "This program helped me shoot for the stars. Josh, my caseworker, was magnificent and I could call on him for anything," said Sherianna Taylor, one of the graduates of the program. "The FSS Program pushed me to see bigger than my situation." Because of this program, Taylor was able to obtain her food truck license and is working toward starting her own food truck called "Taylor's Taste." She plans to travel with the food truck and eventually own her own home. "Sherianna's story is just one of the many victories of our program. Our team is so passionate about the work that we do and how we can help empower people to change their lives for the better," said Marcia Davis, executive director of The Housing Authority. "The FSS Program and our other Housing Authority programs help provide our residents with the tools they need to succeed and lead a more sustainable, self-sufficient life."
