California begins digital driver's licenses pilot program

LOS ANGELES - Sept. 7, 2023 - PRLog -- The California Department of Motor Vehicles is testing its new mobile driver's license and is available for both Apple and Android-based phones. However, according to the DMV, the mobile driver's license is limited to 1.5 million Californians.

One of the main benefits is that the mobile driver's license meets the highest federal and international security standards, that's why it can be used as a form of identification in several airports, including Los Angeles International Airport.

On the other hand, since digital licenses can have additional layers of security, they may be less susceptible to theft or forgery compared to physical cards.

Despite this, users should still carry their physical driver's license, since law enforcement, state government agencies and businesses are not yet accepting the mobile licenses.
