Scouts Impact on Local Communities Through Scouting for Food

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Oct. 23, 2023 - PRLog -- In a remarkable display of dedication and community spirit, local Scouts and their families have come together to make a significant impact for those in need. The "Scouting for Food" initiative, which takes place during the fall quarter, showcases the Scouting's commitment to making a difference in the community.

In preparation for the upcoming Scouting for Food collection day on November 4th, Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council (SVMBC) will be distributing 135,000 door hangers throughout neighborhoods. This initiative enables residents to prepare food donations for pick-up, ensuring a seamless and convenient process.

In 2022, SVMBC's Polaris District contributed to 25% of all the food donations, with Pack 415, collecting over 5,300 pounds of food for West Valley Community Services (https://www.wvcommunityservices.org/), an organization driven to fight hunger and homelessness. This significant achievement was part of a larger, council-wide initiative, uniting Scouts from over 150 units, resulting to an impressive collection of more than 44,000 pounds of food for local food banks.

Scouting for Food is an initiative that extends far beyond the Scouters and their immediate families.  It is a testament to Scouting's commitment to serving the broader community, working together to combat hunger, and provide vital assistance to those who need it most.

On the first three Saturdays of November, Scouts from SVMBC, along with several other Councils across Northern Californica, including Golden Gate, Piedmont, Redwood Empire and Pacific Skyline Council, will host a Scouting for Food collection day.

The Scouting for Food initiative embodies the spirit of community service, compassion, and cooperation; serving as a shining example of how our Scouts contribute to the welfare of their local communities.
