Use of a pocket GPU as a mobile AI booster

Dec. 15, 2023 - PRLog -- Portable GPUs are graphics processors which can be connected to a computer USB port and which immediately significantly increase its processor power, because a GPU is not only responsible for graphic processes, but also accelerates all processor-intensive routines. An eGPU (external graphics processing unit) is therefore the perfect tool for tuning virtually all computers for fast automated applications. The use scenarios range from simple, but fast image transfer to autonomous machines and further AI-controlled systems. With "Pocket AI", the German distributor Acceed (www.acceed.com) has now integrated an eGPU into its programme which was specifically developed for industrial use in collaboration with the two manufacturers Nvidia and Adlink.

The "Pocket AI", now available from Acceed Germany, is dimensioned with 106 x 72 x 25 mm, highly compact, only weighs 250 g and really is portable and mobile. "Pocket AI" therefore offers a convincing combination of performance, efficiency, and reliability for handling complex workflows. Electricity is provided via USB. The centrepiece of the robust box is the RTX A500 from Nvidia with 2048 CUDA cores and 4 GB GDDR6 memory. The CUDA cores are based on the ampere architecture and ensure single precision rotating point performance (FP32) of 6.54 TFLOPS. The memory bandwidth is 96 GB/s, electricity consumption around 25 W TGP. The interface is a Thunderbolt 3 port (USB-C). The second USB-C socket is used to connect an electricity source. It supports the current Windows versions 10 and 11 as well as Linux operating systems.

Conclusion: the new "Pocket AI" makes AI applications and image processing mobile and enables flexible, spontaneous, and mobile use at changing locations, which is perfect, for example for AI developers, industrial item recognition or field data analysis – AI performance in the briefcase.
