FORT MYERS, Fla. - Dec. 21, 2023 - PRLog -- United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades honored community philanthropist David Lucas recently for his longtime support of the organization. In recognition of his unparalleled philanthropy and unwavering commitment to making a positive impact, the organization has dedicated its main campus after the distinguished benefactor.

United Way Board Members, community volunteers, and staff gathered with Lucas to dedicate the main campus. The David Lucas United Way Campus was made official on Nov. 30 with the placement of a plaque on the building.

"David has been a tremendous supporter of ours for over 30 years," said United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades President and CEO Jeannine Joy. "This dedication is not just about recognizing a philanthropist; it's about celebrating a shared vision for a better future. David's generosity has enabled us to reach new heights and serve our communities more effectively. The David Lucas United Way Campus will stand as a testament to the power of collective action and the profound impact one individual can have on an entire community. We want to be sure that generations to come will understand that David is the epitome of a Servant Leader."

Lucas founded the United Way Alexis de Tocqueville Society of Lee, Hendry, and Glades in 1991. The society is composed of donors who give at least $10,000 annually to United Way's annual fundraising campaign. Over the last 33 years, more than $62 million has been raised. The total amount raised last year represented half of the money raised for the total annual campaign.

Lucas was named an honorary United Way Board Member for Life earlier this year.

"In honoring David, United Way recognizes not just an individual but a visionary whose impact extends far beyond financial contributions," said Lee County Tax Collector Noelle Branning.

"The David Lucas United Way Campus will serve as a reminder that each act of kindness and support contributes to the collective well-being of our community. This is a momentous occasion that unites us all in a shared commitment to building a brighter future."

Among those in attendance to recognize Lucas were his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Becky Lucas; United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades President and CEO Jeannine Joy; Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson; Lee County Tax Collector and United Way Board Chair, Noelle Branning; and South Florida Water Management District Chair Chauncey Goss.
