Follow on Google News | United Way honors longtime supporter David LucasBy: United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades United Way Board Members, community volunteers, and staff gathered with Lucas to dedicate the main campus. The David Lucas United Way Campus was made official on Nov. 30 with the placement of a plaque on the building. "David has been a tremendous supporter of ours for over 30 years," said United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades President and CEO Jeannine Joy. "This dedication is not just about recognizing a philanthropist; Lucas founded the United Way Alexis de Tocqueville Society of Lee, Hendry, and Glades in 1991. The society is composed of donors who give at least $10,000 annually to United Way's annual fundraising campaign. Over the last 33 years, more than $62 million has been raised. The total amount raised last year represented half of the money raised for the total annual campaign. Lucas was named an honorary United Way Board Member for Life earlier this year.
