Reporter Mark Freer learns that the body of an old girlfriend has been found, beaten to death, in the county where he now lives and works south of Atlanta. He left the girl, Amanda, years before due to her drug addiction but feels guilty because he played a part in beginning that addiction. Driven by that guilt and disillusionment with his current suburban life, he begins to look into Amanda's death.

His impromptu investigation reveals that Amanda was last seen with an unknown three men, and those men now pose a threat to Amanda's son, who is living with her parents and younger sister in Atlanta's north suburbs. Together with deceased lover's sister, Dani, Freer tracks the three mystery men in a pimped-up Cadillac through Atlanta's seedier side, strip clubs and dog fighting, until they discover a truth from deeper in Amanda's past that has brought this danger to her family, and Freer's, doorsteps.

Drawn partially from the real-life experiences of author Ed Brock, a former police reporter, Pale in Death is a tour of Atlanta's seedy side with characters that live and breathe.

Meet the author …

ED BROCK was born in Mobile, Alabama and graduated from Spring Hill Collegewith a bachelors in English lit and sociology. He started his career in journalism shortly after.

Ed started writing for a chain of twice-weekly newspapers in Baldwin County, Alabama, covering everything from city council meetings to school news to, of course, crime.

Ed moved to Japan to teach English for two years, and when he returned to the U.S. he moved to Atlanta, where he began working for a daily newspaper, The News Daily, in Clayton County on the police beat. For five years he covered crime of every kind, the inspiration for Pale in Death.
