Could the Portuguese D7 Visa be Rebranded as the Digital Nomad Visa?

LAGOS, Portugal - Jan. 17, 2024 - PRLog -- Portugal is increasingly attracting digital nomads worldwide. The Covid-19 pandemic enforced a remote work trend, leading to a new way of working. The acceptance of remote work has created a new generation of digital nomads who blend work with travel. Portugal, with its D7 Visa, has become an ideal choice for many, offering a unique lifestyle.

Why Portugal?

Portugal's strategic location, coupled with its stunning weather, relaxed lifestyle, breathtaking scenery, world-class beaches, and exquisite cuisine, makes it a top destination. It also boasts one of Western Europe's lowest costs of living.

Portugal has been actively luring foreigners with incentives like the D7 Visa, a residency opportunity for non-EU citizens. This includes an increasing number of young digital nomads.

It's worth noting that the D7 Visa is also an excellent option for pensioners with sufficient passive foreign income, sourced from pensions, salaries, dividends, property rentals, or investments.

The income requirement is relatively low, with €8,460 per year for individuals or €12,690 per year for couples. A higher deposit increases your chances of visa approval. You'll also need a Portuguese tax number and bank account to initiate the application process.

After completing these steps, secure long-term accommodation, either through rental or purchase, and submit an online application to your local Portuguese Consulate. Once approved, you'll receive a visa for four months, allowing entry. Subsequently, SEF will review your application and issue a two-year D7 Visa. To maintain it, you must spend six consecutive months or eight intermittent months annually in Portugal, with the option to renew for three years.

Portugal offers additional perks like access to schools, healthcare, employment opportunities, and, after five years, eligibility for Portuguese citizenship.
