Retired US doctor is a hero, but any traveler could be a hero too – here's how

ORANGE, Calif. - Jan. 24, 2024 - PRLog -- Meet Dr. Robert Winokur, a hero whose passion for saving lives never stopped at retirement! After 34 years of working in both adult and pediatric emergency medicine, upon retirement he decided to switch gears and volunteer for various global medical mission organizations. From New Mexico's reservations to the war zone in Ukraine to poverty in Laos, he has been on the front lines, even during the pandemic! Dr. Winokur is not just a doctor but he's also a suitcase delivery man, delivering much-needed medical supplies to the missions he works on. He plans to take many suitcases on future missions.

During his three-month adventure in Laos, he worked at a Children's Hospital in the Luang Probang Province, where he provided free medical care to patients. Not only did Dr. Winokur treat a wide range of illnesses, from malnutrition to infectious diseases, but he also established two new orthopedic clinics and trained local doctors on the latest techniques.

About Not Just Tourists

Not Just Tourists is a non-profit organization with a mission to improve healthcare access in developing countries. NJT collects surplus medical supplies from hospitals, pharmacies, clinics, medical industry partners and individuals, that would otherwise be thrown into landfills due to US regulations. Volunteers pack the supplies into donated suitcases for delivery by travelers visiting developing countries.
