Follow on Google News | Retired US doctor is a hero, but any traveler could be a hero too – here's how"I discovered NJT while reading a magazine article about their organization. Taking suitcases of medical supplies is a natural complement to my medical mission travels. My first suitcases were to Ukraine and this year I took to Laos."
During his three-month adventure in Laos, he worked at a Children's Hospital in the Luang Probang Province, where he provided free medical care to patients. Not only did Dr. Winokur treat a wide range of illnesses, from malnutrition to infectious diseases, but he also established two new orthopedic clinics and trained local doctors on the latest techniques. NJT-OC applauds Dr. Robert Winokur, a true hero, but any traveler can also be a hero without the medical mask and gown. All you need is a baggage allowance you are not using, and an hour of your time at your vacation destination. We provide the suitcase packed with medical supplies, and an address to drop it off near the location you are vacationing. About Not Just Tourists Not Just Tourists is a non-profit organization with a mission to improve healthcare access in developing countries. NJT collects surplus medical supplies from hospitals, pharmacies, clinics, medical industry partners and individuals, that would otherwise be thrown into landfills due to US regulations. Volunteers pack the supplies into donated suitcases for delivery by travelers visiting developing countries. By providing a platform for regular travelers to make a positive impact, NJT is empowering individuals to make a difference in the places they visit and make their own contribution to global health efforts.
