Philharmonic takes a musical journey through Motown, Mamma Mia & more

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Jan. 30, 2024 - PRLog -- February is a perfect time for music lovers to get their groove on as the Michigan Philharmonic offers up a concert full of the music of Motown, Mamma Mia and much more.

Planned for Saturday, Feb. 10 at the O'Leary Performing Arts Center in Garden City, "Motown Meets Mamma Mia-Here We Go Again" begins at 7:30 p.m. and features a wide array of tunes as well as three talented vocalists and members of the Garden City High School Choir.

As one of Michigan's finest orchestras, the Plymouth-based Philharmonic celebrates a wide range of classical and pops music that connects, engages, and creates unique experiences. This year the symphony continues celebrating the 25^th year Music Director and Conductor Nan Washburn has led the regional symphony.

Among the pieces that will be performed include compositions by ABBA, Stevie Wonder, Burt Bacharach, the Beach Boys, Chuck Mangione and the Rolling Stones. Also planned is "Disco Fever," a disco arrangement with the Garden City Choir.

Featured singers Kathryn Calzone, Lauren Norris and Taylor Haring will join the Phil during two numbers at the concert. Calzone is Michigan native who trained at the New England Conservatory of Music after graduating from Interlochen Arts Academy. She was a featured vocalist for the Michigan Philharmonic celebrating the music of ABBA in 2018 and performs locally with the Swing City Band. Norris is a Michigan native who graduated from Salem High School, as well as the Royal Conservatorie of Scotland. Haring is a classically trained vocalist who graduated Madonna University in Livonia. An American Idol finalist she performs throughout the Midwest with her band, Athens Creek.
