Spirit of Children fundraiser raises $61,387 for Golisano Children's Hospital

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Feb. 13, 2024 - PRLog -- Spirit Halloween presented a $61,387 check to the Child Life professionals of Golisano Children's Hospital Feb. 6. The funds were raised during the Spirit of Children campaign held last October. The company also gifted $3,500 in costumes, decorations and crafts – helping to make the hospital less scary and have a little fun for the children hospitalized during the holiday.

Each year, Spirit Halloween stores offer 10% off purchases both in stores and online and then donate the proceeds to participating Child Life programs at neighboring hospitals for Child Life Month in March. The annual Spirit of Children campaign has raised more than $500,000 for Golisano Children's Hospital since 2007.

Spirit of Children focuses on making hospitals less scary for children and their families by partnering with Child Life Departments working to create more comfortable hospital environments. With donations raised in Spirit Halloween stores and from vendor partners, they continue empowering Child Life programs and roles, including:

• Hiring essential Child Life Specialists
• Purchasing sensory and educational items as well as adaptive toys and medical teaching dolls
• Supporting art, music, canine, and horticulture therapy programs
• Constructing and renovating playrooms, playgrounds, teen lounges and family spaces.

"Our fundraising efforts enable Child Life Specialists to provide therapeutic and emotional healing, education, and coping to young patients, while doctors and nurses focus on medical treatment."

The Child Life program at Golisano Children's Hospital aims to keep children's lives as normal as possible while they receive essential lifesaving medical care. This allows children to go through difficult situations and process the information, thoughts and feelings that accompany those situations at their own pace.  Child Life offers services such as activities in the playroom, teen lounge and bedside; preparation for medical procedures, tests and surgeries; educational services for homebound students, and special events, such as pet therapy and clowns.
