Follow on Google News | Coral Springs Center for the Arts to Present INDIGO GIRLS on May 5 / Tix on Sale NowIndigo Girls Released in 1989, Indigo Girls' eponymous major label debut sold over two million copies under the power of singles Closer to Fine and Kid Fears, turning Indigo Girls into one of the most successful folk duos in history. Over a 35-year career that began in clubs around their native Atlanta, the multi-Grammy- Rolling Stone describes them as the "ideal duet partners." Committed and uncompromising activists, they work on issues like immigration reform (El Refugio), LGBTQ advocacy, education (Imagination Library), death penalty reform, and Native American rights. They are co-founders of Honor the Earth, a non-profit dedicated to the survival of sustainable Native communities, Indigenous environmental justice, and green energy solutions. "We joke about being old, but what is old when it comes to music? We're still a bar band at heart," says Saliers. "While our lyrics and writing approach may change, our passion for music feels the same as it did when we were 25 years old." Indio Girls & Barbie + NPR: 'As you have probably heard by now, Barbie is having a moment. She is not the only one. She is sharing the spotlight with a legendary singer/songwriter duo and their 1989 hit Closer to Fine. + Variety: "Turns out Barbie is a huge Indio Girls fan—or, at least like a million women and some men before her, she likes to belt along with the 1989 folk-rock smash Closer to Fine in the car." + The New York Times: 'Barbie's song of choice on her way to the Real World is the Indigo Girls' Closer to Fine. It's been recirculating in pop culture organically, too. In March, a video of the comedian Tig Notaro singing it on a party bus alongside a crew that included Glennon Doyle, Abby Wambach, and Sarah Paulsen blew up online."
