NORWELL, Mass. - March 12, 2024 - PRLog -- Peak Physical Therapy & Sports Performance, a South Shore practice specializing in unique programs that provide comprehensive treatment in orthopedic, spine and sports medicine specialties, has created a specialized program to treat gymnasts.

Gymnasts perform various routines that involve flips, twists, and other acrobatic movements, which put stress on their joints and muscles. As a result, gymnasts are at a higher risk of injuries compared to other athletes. Injuries can range from minor sprains to severe fractures that require surgery and long-term rehabilitation. Therefore, injury prevention and rehabilitation are critical for gymnasts to maintain their performance and avoid long-term injuries.

The Peak Gymnastics Program offers injury prevention strategies such as warm up and cool down exercises and evaluation for proper technique and form. The program was created by Olivia Deluca PT, DPT who is a certified GymSAFE gymnastics screener.

Deluca earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Connecticut in 2022 and her B.S. in Exercise Science from SUNY the College at Brockport in 2019. She has experience working with patients of all ages but especially enjoys working with children and young athletes. Deluca is a former NCAA gymnast and found her passion for PT in her own experiences as an athlete. She uses an individualized approach for each patient targeted at helping them return to the things they love and enjoy the most. During her free time, Deluca enjoys going to the Cape, running, golfing, staying involved in the gymnastics community, and spending quality time with family and friends.

"Gymnasts can suffer from acute and or chronic injuries and proper treatment is key to recovery and injury prevention," said Eric Edelman, PT, Founder of Peak Physical & Sports Performance. "Olivia draws from her extensive training and her experience as a gymnast along with her specific education in creating this specialized program. We are proud of the work that Olivia has put into the creation of this treatment program."
