The Pachamama Romania Association is pleased to invite you to take part in the promotion of Roșia Montană as a tourist destination through the Roșia Montană Marathon, an edition dedicated to the inscription of the Roșia Montană mining cultural landscape on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Roșia Montană Marathon is the largest sporting, ecological, and socio-cultural activist event in Romania, initiated in 2013 from the desire of a community to defend its cultural and natural heritage. It all started with the fight against the exploitation of Europe's largest open-pit gold mine and evolved into one of the most significant social and environmental movements in Eastern Europe. Since then, and up to the present, the Roșia Montană Marathon has taken place every time in Roșia Montană, attracting tens of thousands of participants — young people, students, opinion leaders, activists, artists, parents, children, mountain and nature lovers — in a variety of activities including music concerts, theater performances, guided tours of Roșia Montană, book presentations, film screenings, presentation booths, and demonstrative projects organized by numerous environmental NGOs from Romania and abroad, traditional and ecological product fairs, etc.
