Follow on Google News | Circular Economy Pioneers Recognised with Awards ShortlistEarly recognition for Renewable Parts' new US venture on becoming a finalist at the Global Energy Transition Awards in the Circular Technologies category, recognising the unique business model used to recirculate wind turbine parts at scale
By: Renewable Parts LLC Developing a scalable, sustainable means of recirculating wind turbine components has required a great deal of collaboration with like-minded businesses and also with academic institutions. "The critical thing is to make sure the end user considers each product as a viable alternative to new," explained Magnus Firth, General Manager for Product Recirculation. "This not only means that our products have to perform as well as their new equivalents, but that the delivery and uplift process has to be efficient, so technicians at wind farm sites are not given extra workload in packing return goods." Comprehensive supporting materials and documentation for the refurbished goods are achieved through a combination of an in-house Research and Development engineering team, and collaboration with technical partners, universities and research laboratories. As a result, the business supplies refurbished and remanufactured goods not only to end users, but also to service companies and even back to the turbine OEM's. Reverse logistics - a key enabler to any circular economy - have been addressed with bespoke, reusable packaging which allows the end user to fit the refurbished parts and then simply put the defective parts they have removed back into the same packaging ready for uplift. Examples like these, and the unique business model which spreads the variation in costs of refurbishment thus giving the end user a set price regardless of the condition of the return core, are what have made the business stand our as a circular economy pioneer, and have resulted in the nomination for the Circular Technology award in June 2024. The Reuters Events Global Energy Transition Awards will take place on the 25th of June 2024 in New York, and will be a showcase of businesses from around the world who are committed to and working towards a more sustainable future.
