On April 3rd, 2024, Islamic Leadership Institute of America (ILIA) joined a Safe Space Mentoring Roundtable, which brought together key figures to discuss the future of youth mentoring in the city.

This wasn't a typical conference. Forty key figures—leaders from nonprofits, city council, and dedicated youth development staff—came together with a revolutionary goal: to transform Baltimore's approach to youth mentoring.

The Summit's impact was undeniable. Councilmembers Mosby and Cohen set the stage with personal stories that underscored the importance of diverse mentors and active listening to young voices. These insights fueled discussions around "critical mentoring," a personalized, culturally sensitive approach that fosters safe spaces for youth.

The energy was infectious. Attendees representing 40 nonprofits shared successes, challenges, and a collective commitment to Baltimore's youth. This spirit of collaboration encouraged the exchange of best practices and the identification of areas for improvement.
