Various national studies indicate that parents typically spend more than $100 per child on back-to-school supplies. For single parents or families with multiple children, this can create a significant financial burden. Texas Trust hid $250 in one backpack as an extra surprise. It was selected by a single mom of two elementary-aged children. The day she came into the credit union she was planning to apply for a small short-term loan to buy some of the supplies and clothes her children needed for school.
