CHICAGO - May 21, 2024 - PRLog -- A 1995 photo made of renowned photographer, author, musician Gordon Parks by Karen I. Hirsch is currently on auction until May 22nd online on Artsy to benefit the American Photographers Archive Group. APAG's mission is to educate its members about the importance of preservation and maintenance of a privately held photography archive.

Gordon Parks was the first Black staff photographer for Life Magazine. This talented artist wrote, directed and composed the music for the iconic movie Shaft. His photojournalism images made a statement about American society. He is best known for his photos depicting civil rights, poverty, and urban life. He also photographed fashion. This renaissance man authored multiple books and was a gifted musician.

Hirsch met Gordon Parks at the first FOTOfusion photo festival held in Del Ray, Florida. He was the keynote speaker for an evening outdoor presentation.

Some of the other photos submitted to the Artsy auction by members of APAG include images of John Lennon, Louis Armstrong, Marilyn Monroe, Carol King, Mick Jagger, Madonna, Elizabeth Taylor and President Barack Obama.

Karen I. Hirsch is an international award-winning visual artist based in Chicago. Her commercial, editorial and fine art work have been published internationally in magazines, newspapers and books including Communication Arts and Graphis photo annuals. Her fine art work is found in corporate and private collections.
