STL Couple raised over $60,000 to fund nontraditional students attending St. Louis' only HBCU

ST. LOUIS - June 18, 2024 - PRLog -- The 2nd annual BLK Family Reunion Festival, held over Juneteenth weekend at Harris-Stowe State University, was a resounding success, raising over $60,000 to support non-traditional students at St. Louis' only Historically Black College and University (HBCU).

Despite the warm weather, the St. Louis community came out in force to celebrate Black culture, enjoy live music from Dirty Muggs, Terry Colman, Smokin Lions, and Grammy-winning artist Murphy Lee, and support local vendors and food trucks.

The festival was founded by Cornell Boone, who envisioned a space for celebrating both St. Louis and Black heritage after attending his wife's family reunion. He partnered with close contacts to create the BLK Family Reunion Festival as a platform for community connection and cultural pride.

This year, the BLK Family Reunion Festival partnered with major brands like Wells Fargo, Ameren UE, and Uncle Nearest to support its #HBCUProud scholarship initiative. During the event, a check for $61,000 was presented to the Harris-Stowe Foundation, Inc., directly benefiting non-traditional students pursuing higher education.

The BLK Family Reunion Festival serves as a testament to the power of community spirit and cultural celebration. It looks forward to continuing its mission of supporting St. Louis and its future generations.
