Damabiah Foundation Commends Kenyan Police Deployment in Haiti

The Damabiah Foundation praises the arrival of 400 Kenyan police officers in Haiti and extends gratitude to President William Ruto for his assistance. Haiti has been battling extreme gang-related violence, displacing over 500,000 residents

PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti - June 25, 2024 - PRLog -- On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the first contingent of Kenyan police officers arrived in Port-au-Prince to assist with an international mission aimed at restoring security in Haiti. The deployment, supported by Kenya's President William Ruto, came after months of anticipation. A Kenya Airways aircraft landed at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport with 400 armed, helmeted police officers dressed in military fatigues, marking a significant step towards enhanced security efforts.

Gang violence in Haiti has reached unprecedented levels, with armed groups looting homes, setting residences on fire, and subjecting women and girls to sexual violence. Over 2,500 people have been killed since January, and more than 500,000 Haitians have been forced to flee their homes, seeking refuge with friends or in rural areas. The violence has disrupted access to essential services like healthcare, with many medical facilities ceasing operations due to insecurity and staff shortages.

Communities in Haiti are severely impacted by ongoing violence, facing daily risks as they attempt to secure basic needs. Waner Ilance Jerome, director of Operations at the Famabiah Foundation, has witnessed numerous injuries and fatalities resulting from gang conflicts. He shared accounts of community members bringing injured individuals to his facility for evacuation, and many succumbing to severe gunshot wounds. The humanitarian crisis necessitates immediate and sustained intervention to restore safety and provide critical services.

The Damabiah Foundation is intensifying its humanitarian efforts in Haiti's most inaccessible neighborhoods, enhancing access to essential goods and services such as healthcare and clean water. The organization is working closely with communities affected by armed violence to ensure safe access to emergency medical care and other critical resources. Their commitment underscores the importance of coordinated international support and local engagement in addressing the ongoing crisis.

The Damabiah Foundation https://www.fondamabiah.org is dedicated to supporting communities in crisis, improving access to essential services, and promoting safety and well-being in vulnerable areas. Their ongoing efforts in Haiti highlight the crucial need for international cooperation and local resilience in mitigating the impacts of violence.
