Chemical Resistance in Industrial and Laboratory Applications with a Focus o

ANTARCTICA, Chile - June 26, 2024 - PRLog -- Abstract: Chemical resistance is a critical factor in the selection of materials for various industrial and laboratory applications. This study provides an overview of the importance of chemical resistance, factors affecting it, and common materials used in applications requiring resistance to chemicals, with a particular focus on metal labels, aluminium labels, and industrial labels. The study also highlights the significance of considering the specific chemical environment and conditions when choosing materials for applications with high chemical resistance requirements.

In industrial and laboratory settings, materials are often exposed to harsh chemical environments, necessitating the use of materials with high chemical resistance. Chemical resistance refers to a material's ability to withstand exposure to chemicals without degrading, corroding, or losing its functionality. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of chemical resistance, its importance, factors affecting it, and common materials used in applications requiring high chemical resistance, with a particular focus on metal labels, aluminium labels, and industrial labels. Factors Affecting Chemical Resistance: Several factors influence the chemical resistance of materials, including the type of polymer bonds, the degree of crystallinity, branching, the distance between the bonds, and the energy required to break the bonds. Additionally, the operating temperature, exposure time, and concentration of the chemical can affect the chemical resistance of a material. Common Materials Used in Applications Requiring High Chemical Resistance: Materials with high chemical resistance are often used in applications where chemicals are used or produced, such as in chemical processing plants, pharmaceutical labs, and industrial manufacturing facilities. Stainless steel and certain types of plastics are commonly used in chemical processing because of their resistance to corrosion and degradation. In the lab setting, glass and certain types of plastics are often used for storage and handling of chemicals because of their resistance to most acids and bases. Methods for Testing and Evaluating Chemical Resistance: The chemical resistance of a material or surface can be determined in compliance with ISO 2812 Paints and varnishes – Determination of resistance to liquids – Part 1: Immersion in liquids other than water (ISO 2812-1:2007); German Version EN ISO 2812-1:2007 or Part 4: Spotting methods (ISO 2812-4:2007); German Version EN ISO 2812-4:2007. With these methods, a material or surface is exposed to a chemical for a specified period, and the degree of degradation or change in properties is then assessed.

Chemical resistance is a critical factor in the selection of materials for various industrial and laboratory applications. Factors such as the type of polymer bonds, operating temperature, exposure time, and concentration of the chemical.
