Explosive Allegations of Misconduct and Cover-ups Rock Liberty University in Lawsuit Filed

Former Employee Files Lawsuit Claiming Cover-ups and Security Lapses, Demanding $25 Million in Damages for wrongful termination.

LYNCHBURG, Va. - June 26, 2024 - PRLog -- Liberty University, a prominent institution in Lynchburg, Virginia, faces shocking allegations of intentional deception and cybersecurity breaches in a lawsuit filed by former employee Matthew McGee. The lawsuit, filed on June 14, 2024, in Lynchburg Circuit Court, alleges a series of disturbing incidents that highlight systemic failures in the university's management of sensitive information and IT security protocols.

According to Mr. McGee, Liberty University was targeted by the Iranian Cyber Army in a 2022 cyber attack, compromising student, staff, and vendor personal information. Shockingly, despite the severity of the breach, Mr. McGee asserts that university leadership intentionally downplayed the incident, deleted evidence, and withheld crucial information from the public and IT security officials.

The lawsuit further alleges that senior administrative staff, under the direction of senior IT leadership, engaged in deceptive practices to conceal security vulnerabilities. Mr. McGee claims that "fake" computers were created to deceive auditing systems, while the real devices harbored unapproved and potentially malicious software without essential security measures such as antivirus or malware protection. These actions, Mr. McGee asserts, were known risks that were deliberately ignored by senior IT leadership.

Moreover, Mr. McGee's complaint details additional security lapses at Liberty University, including the discovery of sensitive passwords stored in plain text on unencrypted university websites. Shockingly, critical systems hosting confidential information reportedly lacked basic cybersecurity defenses, exposing nearly 2000 systems to potential exploitation.

Mr. McGee, described as a whistleblower in the lawsuit, alleges that his efforts to address these security deficiencies were met with resistance and retaliation. Despite his attempts to document policy violations and improve vulnerability management practices, Mr. McGee claims that senior IT leadership obstructed his efforts and ultimately terminated his employment under dubious circumstances.

In response to these allegations, Mr. McGee seeks $25,000,000 in damages from Liberty University, emphasizing the importance of accountability and transparency in safeguarding university practices and data integrity.

"This lawsuit underscores a significant challenge to Liberty University's integrity and governance," said Mr. McGee's. "We anticipate a thorough investigation will reveal the extent of these alleged misconducts and hold responsible parties accountable."

As the case unfolds, Mr. McGee and his legal team are prepared to present a Jury evidence of alleged misconduct at the highest levels of Liberty University's administration, calling for a fair and just resolution to protect the university's stakeholders and uphold ethical standards.
