United Way of Palm Beach County Supports Free Summer Meals for Students in Need

The Summer BreakSpot Program provides free meals to children and teens across Palm Beach County during the summer break.

PALM BEACH, Fla. - June 27, 2024 - PRLog -- Over 173,000 residents in Palm Beach County face hunger, with 50,890 children struggling to find enough to eat daily. During summer break, the risk of food insecurity increases as many children lose access to school meals. The Summer BreakSpot program addresses this critical need by providing free meals – breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks – to children and teens 18 and under throughout the summer.

The federally funded Summer BreakSpot program is designed to bridge the summer hunger gap, enabling organizations to serve nutritious meals to children. In Palm Beach County, the program is supported by the School District of Palm Beach County, United Way of Palm Beach County, and other local partners. In 2023, 1,057,262 meals were distributed to children across the county.

"At United Way of Palm Beach County, we believe that no child should go hungry, especially during the summer months when school meals are not available. The Summer BreakSpot program ensures that children receive the nutrition they need to thrive," said Dr. Laurie George, president and CEO of United Way of Palm Beach County. "We are committed to supporting our community and ensuring every resident has access to healthy meals."

Summer BreakSpot sites are conveniently located throughout Palm Beach County, with many within walking distance. To find a nearby location, call 2-1-1 or text the word "Food" to 304-304.
