**About the Artists**

**Vincente G. Peoples**

Vincente George Peoples, born in Harbor City, California, embarked on his artistic journey in the early 80s at Phineas Banning High School in Wilmington, California. Immersed in the world of drawing and painting since 1984, Peoples pursued extensive art education at Harbor Community College and subsequently at Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design. There, he developed a profound affinity for ceramic sculpture and received his BFA in 1990.

Peoples' dynamic figurative expression is deeply influenced by the indigenous art of Africa, the Pre-Columbian Americas, and Asia. His work encompasses sculpture, drawing, and painting, characterized by the power of form, line, texture, and movement. Ancestral dialogue plays a significant role in his creations, with personal mythology centered around Moya and The Guardian.

Peoples eloquently describes his creative process in his short writing:

"Blue Flame Orange Flame

And with a twirl Moya spins, as she adorns the Blue Flame Crown.

A rhythm profound from the stars to the ground. A beat from within resonates once again.

It all began with a moment of silence. I stopped what I was doing, sat still and focused. Focused until the arrival of the guardian. Approaching, in step with my breathing, my heartbeat, my rhythm.

A tidal wave of frequency exchanged between us. A common beat retained.
Upon his arrival the rhythm grows. I see him standing with shield, to guard me from doubt, while I let him guide me to Moya. Then we dance all about.
When Moya goes from ebb to flow, she presents me with a portion of her Blue Flame, she places it in my heart and in front of my eye, where it transitions to the Orange Flame, A creation seed."

This creation seed is expressed through his sculpture, drawing, painting, and verse.

**Blakjun (John Lee)**

Blakjun, born in Gary, Indiana, moved to Inglewood, California in the late 70s. His artistic journey began with a passion for photography more than 40 years ago. He studied at Memphis College of Art before earning his BFA from the University of La Verne and his MFA from Claremont Graduate University.

Blakjun's abstract expressionism work incorporates a diverse range of materials, including paint, ink, metals, photography, wood, and leather. He describes his creative process as a conversation involving the elements he uses, the canvas he works on, the piece he creates, and himself.

As the founder of Conceptual Art Therapy, a nonprofit organization providing art programs and therapy to youth and their families in Pomona, Blakjun is dedicated to using art as a means of healing and expression. The gallery commission from this exhibition, as with all shows at CAT Gallery, will benefit Conceptual Art Therapy.

Join us for an afternoon of art, inspiration, and community as we celebrate the remarkable talents of Blakjun and Vincente G. Peoples. This exhibition promises to be a captivating exploration of form, expression, and the power of creative dialogue.
