BASINGSTOKE, U.K. - July 9, 2024 - PRLog -- The oldest example of figurative cave art, have this week been discovered in the Indonesian Island of Sulawesi by Australian and Indonesian scientists.

The painting of a wild pig and three human-like figures is at least 51200 years old, more than 5000 years older than the previous oldest cave art.

The discovery pushes back the time that modern humans first showed the capacity for creative thought.  The paintings were found in the caves of Karampuang Hill in the Indonesian Island of South Sulawesi.

See the amazing discovery for yourself on Bamboo Travel's 17-day Indonesia's Golden Triangle (https://www.bambootravel.co.uk/tours/Indonesia-golden-triangle), a tour which provides a chance to discover Indonesia's fascinating heritage and culture, a trilogy of diverse and contrasting islands.

Fly to Central Java and spend the first two nights in the scenic valleys surrounding Borobudur, exploring small temples, local villages, and the world-famous Buddhist monument at sunrise.

Continue to the bustling city of Yogyakarta – often described as Indonesia's cultural capital – to visit the Hindu temples of Prambanan, the Sultan's Palace and  the backstreets which are well-known for their batik workshops.

After breakfast on day 10, enjoy a road journey from Sengkang to Makassar,  making a stop at the village of Rammang Rammang en route.

Located approximately 50km from Makassar, this protected area of karst mountains and limestone cliffs is considered one of the most beautiful karticos landscapes in Sulawesi.

Here, you will have a chance to discover the newly discovered prehistoric drawings in the caves that riddle these limestone outcrops, indicating that this region of Indonesia has been inhabited for over 50000 years.

Whilst at the village, board a small motorboat for a short river cruise through the spellbinding scenery of green clad mountains, before taking a walk inside the valleys and rice fields, surrounded by limestone peaks, caves, and rainforest.

Arrive back in Makassar late afternoon in time for a flight to the spiritual island of Bali, to spend time in the village of Sidemen, walk in the rice terraces, and visit the island's many cultural sights.

The trip finishes with three-nights' R&R at an attractive beach resort on Bali's quiet east coast.

The holiday costs from £3795 per person based on two people sharing.  This includes international flights, all transportation, 14 nights' B&B (plus two lunches and one evening meal), sightseeing activities and a guide.
