SETAGAYA, Japan - July 25, 2024 - PRLog -- Sushi is a traditional Japanese dish that has gained worldwide popularity. However, preferences for sushi can vary widely among individuals. To explore these preferences, we conducted a survey asking Japanese people about their favorite sushi toppings and where they typically enjoy sushi.

Respondents: 102 Japanese sushi enthusiasts aged 20-50
Duration: June 1 - July 3, 2024

Q1. What is your favorite sushi topping?

Respondents' Feedback:

1. Tuna
I love tuna because its flavor varies by cut, like lean, medium-fatty, and fatty tuna. I splurge on fatty tuna for special occasions.

2. Salmon
I've loved salmon since childhood. The melt-in-your-mouth texture is irresistible.

3. Shrimp
I always order sweet shrimp at sushi restaurants. Its unique, sweet, and firm texture is unbeatable.

4. Young Yellowtail
Eating yellowtail with its perfect fat content is pure bliss. I often get seconds when it's fresh and firm.

5. Engawa (Flounder Fin)
I enjoy its unique crunchy texture and the rich, melt-in-your-mouth flavor that makes it a great snack with alcoholic drinks.

Q2. Where do you usually eat sushi?

Respondents' Feedback:

1. Conveyor Belt Sushi : 48.1%
I often go to conveyor belt sushi restaurants with my family. It's affordable yet feels luxurious.

2. At Home: 37.7%
I usually buy sushi from the supermarket and eat it at home. It allows me to enjoy sushi at my own pace.

3. Sushi Restaurants (Non-Conveyor): 9.4%
I visit non-conveyor belt sushi restaurants for a more authentic experience, despite the higher cost.

4. Restaurants/Izakayas (Other than Sushi Places): 4.7%
I often finish off with sushi if it's on the menu when I visit izakaya. It's a refreshing finish after drinking.

Q3. How often do you eat sushi?
When asked about the frequency of their sushi consumption, the responses were as follows:
  1. Once every 2-3 months : 31.7%
  2. Once a month : 27.7%
  3. Every 2-3 weeks : 18.8%
  4. Every six months : 12.9%
  5. Other : 9.9%

Q4. What factors do you consider when choosing a sushi restaurant?

Respondents' Feedback:

1. Freshness : 30.9%
The freshness of the fish is crucial. Even if other aspects are good, lack of freshness is a dealbreaker.

2. Taste : 27.8%
I keep returning to places with soft rice and delicious toppings.

3. Affordability : 17.2%
I want to eat good sushi at affordable prices, so I often go to conveyor belt sushi places.

4. Cleanliness : 13.7%
Handling raw fish requires cleanliness, and a clean environment makes me feel safe eating sushi.

5. Other : 10.3%
I appreciate a variety of sushi options. Conveyor belt sushi chains are great because they also offer many non-sushi dishes.
